Selvin Young to get more touches in Detroit

There is no doubt that Selvin Young impressed both the coaches and the fans with his performance as the starting running back on Monday night. The undrafted free-agent out of Texas has displayed excellent quickness and power throughout camp and the first half of the season. "I thought he did a very good job for his first game. I thought he came back in the second half and made some plays. Of course that one penalty we had took back a long yarder", Mike Shannahan speaking about Selvin Young during the post game press conference.

Selvin "Selvie" Young rushed for 71 yards on 18 carries and caught 6 balls for 49 yards. His performance will be rewarded this weekend against the Detroit Lions. The Denver Post reports he will get more touches in Detroit despite Travis Henry being the likely starter on Sunday. Young's speed on the turf will be advantageous to the Broncos' Offense and will add a new dimension to the running game, particularly on outside stretch plays. That being said, Young is even more explosive in the passing game where he can break into the open field on screens and short passes.

It appears that the Broncos are preparing for the possible departure of Travis Henry (suspension) by giving Young more touches in both practice and games. Selvin is improving each week and the coaches are most impressed with his ability to absorb the playbook and his understanding of pass blocking protection schemes. The Broncos seem to have found another diamond in the rough at the running back position.
